Rise and Shine!..Now what?
Aside from choosing which products are best for your skin, (House of Reine.. of course) figuring out what order to use them in can be equally as confusing. With so many products on the market, long gone are the days of slapping Vaseline and lotion on to fulfill your skincare needs. Without the luxury of time in the morning, for most, morning skincare routines are often overlooked. In this post I will simply layout how to effectively layer skincare products and which order you should apply them.
While some may argue you shouldn't cleanse your skin in the morning. I, however, do things a little differently- and it works! While you're sleeping, your eyes water, you drool, your body temperature fluctuates and your glands are still secreting sweat and sebum.
In the morning, you should cleanse to remove all residue from the night before. Your cells are renewing and regenerating over the course of the night, making it the optimum time to use heavier textures and active ingredients like our Activated Charcoal Mask. A personal fave, this powerhouse works like a magnet and pulls all impurities from the skin, clearing clogged pores. Applying your morning skincare routine over last nights products will hinder the effectiveness of your morning skincare application. Therefore, cleansing in the morning gives your face a clean slate and better chance of your products penetrating.
Those with extremely dry or reactive skin may be apprehensive about over-washing their face. If you feel you simply cannot wash your face without it feeling stripped, our Perfect 10 Oil Cleanser could be the answer you've been waiting for. Our lightweight cleanser's high antioxidant content helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while providing a natural defense against environmental stressors. The result will leave skin plump, radiant and ready for the day.
2. Liquid Toner / Essence
Similar to hair. You apply liquid first such as a toner to balance your Ph Level and follow with a cream-based product to lock in the moisture. This step will ensure your skin stays hydrated and nourished throughout the day under your products and make-up. My personal fave is a simple Rose Water, Tea Tree or Sea Water facial spray.
An essence, is a little thicker than a toner and is packed with vitamins and antioxidants. When applying an essence, I use my hands to massage it to my face and neck. Using my hands warms the product allowing it to absorb quicker. If you apply an essence, you can skip the next step; they pretty much render the same results.
3. Lightweight Serums
Serums are great! They tend to absorb into the skin quickly and effectively so are perfect for busy mornings following a late night. Our Vitamin CC Serum works at a cellular level to help protect against harmful free radicals from UV rays and everyday pollutants, while preserving the appearance of beautiful, vibrant-looking skin. You will see dramatic results with this energy-packed serum that’s infused with Citrus Stem Cells from orange, which help to enhance skin elasticity.
Personally, I would wait until bedtime to apply any kind of acne treatment or products containing benzoyl peroxide because of the texture and its inability to blend well with make-up. Remember, keep it light.
Moisturizers should be the heaviest texture you use in the morning. I enjoy wearing a non- comedogenic, less heavy moisturizer in the mornings. Our Hydrating Facial Moisturizer does an amazing job at locking in moisture and hydrating all-in-one. This formula is also great for seasonal dryness.
